The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on April 15, 2026, issued the Guidelines for Private Candidates (Third Chance Compartment).
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in line with the National Education Policy 2020, has introduced the Two Board Examination Policy, allowing Class X students to improve their performance. Under this policy, students appearing in the 2026 exams can reappear in up to three subjects during the Second Board Examinations scheduled for May 2026.
The notice specifically addresses private candidates under the third chance compartment category. It allows students from the 2024–25 session who were placed in the compartment category—whether they appeared or missed the main 2026 exams—to apply. Applications must be submitted online through the CBSE website within the specified timeline (April 16–20, 2026, with a late fee window until April 22, 2026). The exams will be based on the same syllabus as the main 2026 examination.
The application process is entirely online, with strict rules: no offline submissions, no acceptance after deadlines, and fees must be paid digitally. Candidate details are auto-generated, and applicants must ensure accuracy, as incorrect or false information may lead to rejection and penalties. Candidates can choose their exam city carefully (no changes allowed later), upload required documents, and make corrections only within the submission window. Final eligibility to appear in the exam will be subject to CBSE rules and verification.
